Obituary For Alice M. Schellhammer

Alice M. Schellhammer June 30, 1934 – Jan. 13, 2021 Alice M. Schellhammer, 86, The Winds at Mattern Orchard, formerly of Altoona passed away, Wednesday following a brief illness at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Irvona, the daughter of the late Stanley and Georgie (Oakman) McCully. She was raised by Herb and Georgie Rea, after the passing of her father. Alice married Robert F. Schellhammer, Sr. on Jan. 15, 1953, he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2003. Alice is survived by her sons, Stan (Randi) Schellhammer of Ashville, Jim (Linda) Schellhammer of Altoona and a daughter, Jackie (Mike) Scacco of Lebanon, Pa; eight grandchildren: Matt, Mike (Amy), Jessica, Ryan, Josh, Adam, Alyssa and Carly; six great-grandchildren: Otto, Arnie, Mick, Ethan, Zachary and Vinny; a brother, Pete McCully of Fallentimber; sisters, Georgie Jean Bailey of Dunlap, TN, Edie Rea Easterwood of Livonia, MI and her dog, Suzie. She was preceded in death by a son Robbie F. Schellhammer, Jr; a sister, Betty Rogers and brother, Jack McCully. Alice was a graduate of BCI High School of Coalport. Later as an adult, Alice attended Altoona Area Vocational-Technology School where she studied, Drafting and Blue Print Reading. She was the office manager/payroll coordinator at Folcarelli Supply and also worked at A&P and Marhofer Bakery as the office manager/secretary. Alice was the owner/operator of Schelly’s Bar from 1983-1993. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Alice enjoyed doing oil painting and was a member of Art in Common. She loved quilting and was the only one in the area at the time with a 12-foot quilting machine. On her street, she was known for her costumes at Halloween and her volunteer work on behalf of the Twelfth Ward. The heart of her family, she loved to cook and feed, often overfeeding, her family, friends and neighbors. She loved to watch and play golf, enjoyed the Hallmark channel, fishing, gardening and her daily cup of tea or caramel latte. Her love of nature was unmatched. Most importantly though, was her love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her face would light up when she spent time with them. A private funeral Mass will be celebrated at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.     Though I haven't seen Aunt Alice in a long time, I know she was a sweet lady! Prayers and lots of love being sent up to the family from SC family!
