Alicia B. Ward

Alicia B. Ward, 88, of Altoona, passed away Tuesday, in Tampa, FL.

She was born in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Alicia (Crotty) Burns. Alicia married J. Richard Ward on August 3, 1957.

Alicia is survived by her loving husband of 65 years; three children: Jeffrey C. Ward, Alicia W. Miller (Marc) and Julia W. Held (Raymond); nine grandchildren: Matthew Miller, Megan Dowden (David), Alex Miller, Kevin Ward, Gregory Ward, Eric Ward, Evan Held, Laura Held and Andrew Held; and her sisters: Diane Burns Cooper and Judith Burns Batcha.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas B. Burns and twin sister, Patricia B. Schroeder.

Alicia graduated from Our Lady of Good Council High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Newark State Teachers College.

Before her marriage, she taught elementary school in Newark, NJ. Alicia then worked in real estate for John Hill Real Estate.

Alicia was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.

She was a member of the Blairmont Club and Harbor Island Club in Tampa, Florida. Alicia led an active social life, playing golf at the Blairmont and enjoyed skiing at Blue Knob.

She was elected to the Hollidaysburg Area School Board for several terms. Alicia loved to travel with her husband, Richard and their friends and enjoyed volunteering at the Henry B. Plant Museum.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Friday, July 7, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648 by Reverend Alan E. Thomas. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
