Obituary For Andrew "Andy" G. Epple

Andrew G. “Andy” Epple March 14, 1941-Feb. 24, 2021

Andrew G. “Andy” Epple, 79, of Altoona passed away Wednesday at his residence following a brief illness. He was born in Altoona the son of the late Gustave and Romayne (Snyder) Epple. Andy married Susan L. Fluke on March 19, 1977 in Altoona. Andy is survived by his loving wife; his sons: Aric Epple, Andrew Epple, Matt Epple all of Altoona, Jon Epple of Bellwood; daughters, Danielle Mattern of Hollidaysburg and Andrea Epple of Hawaii; a brother, David Epple of Harrisburg eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Epple and a grandson, Asher Epple. Andy was a 1959 graduate of Altoona High School, he then earned an Associate’s degree from Penn State University. Andy joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War Era, where he served as a Military Police Officer. His career began in 1966 and he retired in 1990 from the City of Altoona Police Department as a Sergeant. Following his retirement, he worked for the Penn State Altoona Campus Police Department. He was a member of East End United Methodist Church, and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #8, where he was voted and recognized as Policeman of the year on Oct. 3, 1972. Andy enjoyed working in his yard, he loved to travel, going to Germany, Hawaii, Bermuda, Japan and all over the U.S. He also loved spending time with his family. Friends will be received on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021 from 11-12:45 p.m. at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, followed by a funeral service with the Rev. Fred E. Hickok at 1:00 p.m. in The Stevens Memorial Chapel. Committal will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.stevensfamilyfuneralhomes.com or Stevens Family Funeral Homes Facebook.
