Anna Jean Ruggery (Jean), 92, Hollidaysburg, peacefully passed away Saturday at her residence surrounded by her children. Jean was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Frank H. and Winifred A. (Corless) Monahan. On September 15, 1962, she married Donald A. Ruggery, Sr. Surviving are her husband; two daughters: Karen J. Shriner of York and Mary Alice Morehouse (Bob) of Monroe, CT; two sons: Donald A. Ruggery, Jr. (Katie) and John F. Ruggery (Regina) all of Duncansville; twelve grandchildren: Brian and Jamey Kisielnicki; Donald A. III, Emma, and Maria Ruggery; Daniel, Benjamin and Adam Morehouse; Luke, Kyle, Kurt and Troy Ruggery; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a special niece and friend, Mary Ann (Monahan) Fochler. Jean was the last member of her family and was preceded in death by her infant son, Timothy; grandson Jonathan Kisielnicki, son in-law, Charley Shriner, brothers: Vincent “Bill”, Jim, John, and Bernard Monahan; and sisters: Alice “Sis”, Emma and Martha Monahan. She was a 1947 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and went on to graduate from the Seton Hill College for Nursing. Jean began her career as an ER Nurse at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and retired as a Registered Nurse from James E. VanZandt VA Medical Hospital, Altoona. She served as a proud, long-time member of the Catholic Nurses Association of Altoona and a vocal pro-life advocate. Jean was a life-long member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she belonged to the Christian Mothers. Jean’s greatest vocation was to show love of all children. She was Aunt Jean, or Jeanie, to many nieces and nephews, beloved Grammie to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and just “mom” to the many friends of her children while they were growing up. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, bird watching, cooking for the entire family, and especially cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2716 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16601 with celebrant Fr. James Dugan.
