Barbara Ann (Bell) Woods

August 3, 1941-April 11, 2025

Barbara Ann (Bell) Woods, 83, of Altoona, passed away Friday evening after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer at her residence. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late David Albert and Esther (Miller) Bell.

She married Frederick Woods on June 13, 1964 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 60 years; her three children: Dr. Timothy G. Woods, M.D. (Beverly) of Gambrills, Maryland, James M. Woods (Heidi) of Eldersburg, Maryland, and Theresa “Teri” L. (Woods) Taylor (John “JT”) of Bowie, Maryland; six grandchildren: Isabel, Matthew, Jack, Ali, JD and Justin; her brother, Richard Bell of Florida; a special cousin, whom was more like a sister, Jean Ann Mitchell of Altoona; two sisters-in-law: Therese Woods of Erie and Mary Edna Stetter of Minneapolis, MN; also, many, many nieces, nephews, cousins as well as her dear friend, Diane Speece.

Barbara was preceded in death by Janet Bell, Richard and Ann Woods, James Woods, Nourine and Bob Woods, Frank Woods, Chris Woods and Kasey (Bell) Phillips.

She was a 1959 graduate of Altoona High School and in 1992 she received her Associates Degree in accounting from Mt. Aloysius College.

Barbara retired from Temple Beth Israel after 20 years as their Office Administrator, she had previously worked in the State Department in Washington DC.

She was always volunteering her time with the Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Barbara enjoyed teaching English as a second language. She sat on the St. Mark’s Parish Council and gave of her time helping prepare taxes for the elderly at the Blair Senior Services Center, which she loved doing.

Friends will be received from 2-6 pm on Monday, April 21, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 416 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 with Fr. Nelson Javier, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

The family kindly requests that contributions be made in memory of Barbara to: St. Mark’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 416 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 or the Carmelite Monastery of St. Therese of Lisieux, P.O. Box 57, 2101 Manor Dr., Loretto, PA 15940.
