Barry A. Kumpf, 69, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Kenneth Rhodes and Betty (Stahl) Kumpf.

Barry is survived by his two children: Courtney Kumpf (Alex) of Taylor and Cory Kumpf (Megan) of Claysburg; former wife, Joyce Kumpf, sister-in-law, Mary Kumpf; half-brother, Bob Rhodes (Tammy), half-sister, Tyville Rhodes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brother, Kenneth Kumpf and sister-in-law, Dorenda Kumpf; and half-brothers: Ronnie Stahl, Lee Rhodes and Kenneth Rhodes.

Barry was a 1975 graduate of Altoona Area High School and the Altoona Vocational Technical School.

He retired as President/CEO of the Blair County Convention Center and was previously General Manager of Lakemont Park, where he was creator of “Lights on the Lake” in 1997. He was also previously Director of Operations at Mid-State Tool and Supply.

Barry was Past President of United Way of Blair County and served on the Board of Directors of Altoona Development Corporation, Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, Blair County Chamber of Commerce, Leap the Dips Preservation Foundation, PA Ride Safety Board, PA Amusement Park Association and Rotary Club of Altoona.

Friends will be received from Noon until 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc, 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 where a funeral service will immediately follow in Stevens Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. by Pastor Douglas McGaffin.
