Obituary For Betty Kathryn Tate

Betty Kathryn Tate Feb. 18, 1926-May 30, 2022

Betty Kathryn Tate, 96, passed away Monday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.

She was born in Flinton, the daughter of the late Kathryn M. (Chaplin) and Charles E. Bauers. She married Francis D. Tate, Jr. of Altoona Pa. on September 29, 1952, who preceded her in death on September 1, 1981.

She was a 1943 graduate of Reade Township High School. In 1946 she graduated from the Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, School of Nursing in Johnstown Pa., and in 1948 she completed post-graduate coursework in ophthalmic nursing at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She worked as a registered nurse at the Reading PA and the Altoona Hospitals. After raising her three sons, she returned to work as a nursing supervisor at the Valley View Nursing Home in Altoona until her retirement.

Surviving are two sons F. David Tate III of Altoona, Charles F. Tate of Chevy Chase, Md., his wife Susan, grandchildren, Kristen Clark and husband Mike of Washington, DC, Lauren Vitanye and husband Alex of Madison, Wisconsin, Johnathan Tate of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and great-grandson Tate Vitanye. She was preceded in death by son Mark J. Tate in 2006 and a sister.

Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends will be received from 11 am-12 noon, Friday, June 3, 2022 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, Pa. 16602 with Fr. Lubomir Strecok celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to: St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, 2201 Union Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16601.
