C. William Moffitt, Jr.

C. William “Bill" Moffitt, Jr., 92, of Altoona, affectionately known as "Monk" by his closest friends, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Born on March 24, 1932, in Juniata, Bill was the son of the late Charles William and Beatrice Jeanette (Shellenberger) Moffitt.

A long-time resident of the Altoona area, Bill was a devout member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. As a child, he served as an altar boy under Fathers Conley and McNelis. He attended Nobel Elementary School, Keith Junior High, and graduated from Altoona High School in 1950.

After serving in the Army Paratroopers for three years, Bill earned a degree from Penn State University in 1957. He subsequently worked in retail, eventually founding his own successful business, Fashion Wearhouse, with locations in Altoona, Cumberland, Maryland, Hagerstown, Maryland, and York, Pennsylvania.

In 2000, Bill partnered with his longtime friend, Joe Servello, to establish the Servello Gallery of Art, which operated until his retirement in 2010.

Bill was a talented pianist and a cherished friend, known for his entertaining stories and infectious laughter. He married Virginia Colyer in 1957, and together they had three children: Michelle A. Hunt, Bill Moffitt, and Debbie K. Rusell. Bill is survived by his 3 children, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his loving family.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph Hunt, and his sisters Martha Jane and Mary Elizabeth.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
