Catherine “Kay” Maiolo

October 19, 1930-November 3, 2024

Catherine “Kay” Maiolo, 94, Altoona, passed away, Sunday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Verona, the daughter of the late Samuel and Jennie (Sudar) Suchevich.

Kay married Lawrence “Larry” Maiolo on May 20, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Verona. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2013.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Lynette Clapper of Altoona and two grandchildren, whom she loved with all of her heart and soul, Emily Clapper (Sam Kayler-Thomson) and Quinton Clapper (Randi Anderson), both of State College; and many nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Maiolo and her siblings: Sam, Eli, Mike, George, Pete and Mary Suchevich.

She was a 1948 graduate of Penn Hills High School and went on to become an amazing homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was famous for her delicious cooking and fantastic cookies and cakes.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

    Lynette and Family, I am so sorry to learn of your mom's passing. I always remember her kind voice and the telephone conversations we had, reminiscing about family and good times and also remembering her as a wonderful cook and baker. I only regret I didn't visit and talk with her more. Rest in peace Katie.
