Charles H. Sickles August 27, 1931 – October 31, 2021 Mr. Charles Harold Sickles, 90, of Hanover, PA, formerly of Altoona and Hollidaysburg, died Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Homewood of Plum Creek, Hanover. He was born in Altoona, son of C. Harold and Margaret E. (Drabic) Sickles. He married Barbara Ann Taylor on June 16, 1956 at Grace Methodist Church, Altoona. This year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife and daughters, Rev. Dr. Marianne S. Grabowski (Charles) of Hanover and Nancy M. Weinzierl (Daniel) of Harrisburg; three grandchildren: Maria D. Reed (Matthew) of Hagerstown, MD, Joel S. Lancaster (Rachel) of Jeffersonville, IN, and Dana L. Marple (David) of Canonsburg; and four great grandchildren: Kayley, Brianna and Ethan Marple of Canonsburg and Grace Reed of Hagerstown, MD. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by a great grandchild, Gabriel M. Reed, his sister, Dolores K. Rueger and his brother-in-law, Dr. Raymond G. Rueger.

Mr. Sickles was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict from Feb 1951 to Jan 1955 as an airplane mechanic with rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1957 he graduated from Pennsylvania State University with an Associate of Engineering degree. He retired from the former Hayes, Large, Suckling, Fruth & Wedge Architectural Firm after 32 years of service as a construction coordinator.

Mr. Sickles was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg for more than 40 years where he served faithfully assisting with building and property concerns. Since moving to Hanover in 2014 he had been a member of St. David’s Lutheran Church. Charlie was an avid fan of Penn State and Steelers football teams and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also enjoyed golfing, reading history, and woodworking. He was a member of the Masons for more than 60 years. With his wife Barbara, Charlie volunteered at the Altoona Hospital for more than 25 years. He was always working on a jigsaw puzzle which no one else was allowed to touch.

Friends will be received from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021 and from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service of Death and Resurrection on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at Hollidaysburg First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648 with Rev. John Goddisart, officiating. Interment at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
