David Allen Luther

April 28, 1943 – June 1, 2024

David Allen Luther, 81, Altoona, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Ernest H. and Edna M. (Gayle) Luther. He married Marian Carol Ferguson on September 28, 1966 in Winchester, VA.

Surviving is his wife, two sons: Kevin Luther of Altoona and Michael Luther (Erin) of Altoona; a daughter Janice Boone (Dan) of Tyrone; five grandchildren: Michael, Kurt, Kayla, Aidan and Colin; five great grandchildren: Waylon, Lane, Oaklee, Malia and Declan. He was preceded in death by a brother James Luther and two sisters: Mary Lou Keller and Carol Nevitt.

David was a graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Era and had retired from PPG Tipton after 38 years of service as a line operator and previously as a truck driver.

David was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont, the Sons of Legions, Bavarian Aid Society and the Altoona Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a volunteer fireman for the Lakemont Volunteer Fire Co. and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, wood working in his garage, trips to TN and was a train enthusiast and star gazer.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Tuesday June 4, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. A Funeral service for Dave will be held at 10 am on Wednesday June 5, 2024 in the Memorial Chapel of the Stevens Mortuary by Father Brian Norris. Committal will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
