David Elder Gardner

June 30, 1947-June 9, 2026

David Elder Gardner, 78, of Altoona, peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning at his residence. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Richard W. Sr. and Helen (Elder) Gardner.

Dave married Sara “Sally” Stevens on June 15, 1974 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona.

He is survived by his loving wife and two sons, Steven David Gardner and Daniel Robert Gardner (Julie); and grandsons: Colin, Ethan and Luke.

Dave was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard W. Gardner, Jr.

He was a 1965 graduate of Tyrone Area High School and went on to join the PA Army National Guard in 1969. During his time with the National Guard, Dave received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1971 from Pennsylvania State University.

Dave retired as the Chief Financial Officer for Your Building Centers.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Dave was a member of the Tyrone Elks and the American Legion.

He had a vast interest in model trains and cars and enjoyed supporting his grandson’s sporting events.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, June 12, 2026 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5519 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 with Msgr. Michael Becker, celebrant.

Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
