Obituary For Deborah A. Wagner

Deborah A. Wagner October 17, 1952-June 2, 2026

Deborah A. Wagner, 73 of Altoona, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Bathurst) Shaffer.

Deborah married Allen S. Wagner on December 3, 1977 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona and shared 46 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 12, 2024.

She is survived by her two loving daughters: Sarah Fetterman (Eric) of Pittsburgh and Emma McFee (Brian) of Altoona; two grandchildren: Grant and Madeline Fetterman; her brother Charles Shaffer (Linda) of Illinois and two nephews: Greg and Michael Shaffer and family; her beloved sisters-in-law: Darnyl Vermeire and Sandy Wagner and their children Stephen Vermeire (Jennifer), Andrew Vermeire (Krystal), Jen Fye (Doug) and Jessica Reehl (Eric Baith) and their families.

Deborah was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gerald “Steven” Wagner, Jr.

She was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School where she met her dear friend, Kathy Steele. She was a true friend that was by her side until her final few days.

Deborah was the owner and operator of their family business, Wagner’s Greenhouses. Starting their business on 22nd street and then opening their primary location in Juniata, Deborah spent her days helping customers, creating beautiful potted flower arrangements, and working alongside her husband. She operated the greenhouse for over 40 years before finally retiring.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Deborah loved Penn State football and enjoyed cheering on the team with Allen. She enjoyed antiquing, collecting PRR memorabilia, and loved finding one-of-a-kind and rare custom pieces. Deborah was in a bowling league for many years, loved baking and really enjoyed a good home renovation project that she could do with Allen. She looked forward to Sunday night dinners at her daughter’s in-laws’ (Tom and Cathy McFee) home. The highlight of Deborah’s year was the family’s annual beach trip when she was able to be with family for a full week. Above everything else, Deborah especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and shared a deep love for her daughters and their families.

Friends will be received from 10-noon on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a funeral service will immediately follow at noon in the Stevens Memorial Chapel with Deacon Thomas McFee.

Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation in Deborah’s memory at: michaeljfox.org.
