Denise L. Baranik, 57, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday morning after an ongoing battle with ALS. She was born in Pittsburgh, daughter of Lee R. McGill and Janet C. (Jones) McGill-Brown.
Denise married Timothy M. Baranik on October 19, 1991.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years; two children: daughter, Emily Baranik and husband, Thomas Brunt, son, Adam Baranik and fiancée, Noelle Claassen; sister, Carol Hall (Brian); her mother-in-law, Leona Baranik; stepmother, Bernadette McGill; many nieces, nephews and extended family members that loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Lee Baranik; grandparents from Pittsburgh, Philomena R. Jones, Thomas J. and Sophie McGill; and stepfather, Ronald Brown.
Denise graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1986 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Penn State University in 1990. She worked as a Branch Manager for 16 years in banking and most recently as a Practice Manager/Business Office Manager in the medical practice field.
Denise formerly served on several local committees including the March of Dimes, Blair County Chamber Foundation, and she served on the board for Hollidaysburg Catholic School. She was a volunteer for the Cuddler Program at UPMC Altoona. Most recently she had raised funds for the ALS Association and lead a team in the Walk to Defeat ALS.
She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg and formerly St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona, where she attended grade school. Denise served as a confirmation instructor and assisted with many youth group activities with her husband, Tim, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
Denise had a deep faith and love of Jesus and the saints, whom she prayed to often.
She loved spending time with her husband and children most of all. Denise enjoyed going to the beaches in NC, especially Sunset Beach, walking, reading, cooking, baking, gardening and many outdoor activities. She also enjoyed watching Penn State football.
Friends will be received from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Friday, July 18, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am, Saturday, July 19, 2025 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Fr. Alan E. Thomas, celebrant. Committal will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
