Obituary For Diana K. Macharola

Diana K. Macharola 1928-2022

Diana K. Macharola, 94, Indianapolis, formerly of Altoona, peacefully passed away Thursday morning at Rosegate Nursing Home, Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was born in Philadelphia and married Francis Anthony Macharola (Macchiarola). He preceded her in death on September 24, 1976.

Diana is survived by her four children: Joyce L. Johnston ( Ralph-deceased) of Indianapolis, IN, Dr. Steven F. Macharola M.D. (Donna) of Long Island, NY, David A. Macharola AIA (Sandy) of Hollidaysburg, PA, and Dr. Joseph E. Macharola Ed.D. of Reading, PA; her grandchildren: Lisa, Jonathan, Dino, Kristina, Ericka, Carrie, Anthony, Pauline, Francis, Nicholas, and Grazia; numerous great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Diana was a volunteer at Garvey Manor, Mercy and Bon Secours and UPMC Altoona Hospitals for over 60 years. She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, Italian Heritage Society, Catholic Daughters of the America’s, Christian Mothers of Saint Rose of Lima, Confraternity of the Third Carmelite Order, former member of Business of Professional Woman’s Club.

She worked as a medical secretary and retired from Dr.’s DiGiacobbe, D’Cruz, and Moussa Pediatricians.

Diana enjoyed attending mass, loved being with her family and enjoyed cooking.

At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

    To Mr. Joe and The Macharola family - we extend our deepest sympathy for the loss of Grandma Macharola. Although we never met, I know through Frank that she was a hard working Italian women who cherished her family and her heritage. Her faith was strong and she leaves behind a nice legacy.     Many fond memories of Mrs. Macharola from growing up on Grandview Avenue. She was always so kind and made the neighborhood a great place to for all of us kids. She was a great Mother and did an unbelievable job raising her children. Joe Dumm

    Our sympathies to the Macharola family. I was secretary to Joe Macharola at AAHS and know how important Joe's family was to him. I worked with him when my father passed over and he was so understanding. Jean and Jim McMinn

    Diane and the whole Macharola family were a HUGE part of my life while growing up.Memories of Mrs.Macharola as being the sweetest person. I spoke with her at my mom's funeral at St.Rose and was thrilled that she remembered me!May she rest in peace. Becky (Dumm) Dimino
