Diane A. Steele

January 23, 1949-August 14, 2026

Diane A. Steele, 77, of Altoona, passed away Friday surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Levittown, New York, the daughter of the late John Jacoby and Florence (Christinsen) Jacoby-Russwurn and stepfather, Lou Russwurn.

Diane married John E. Steele, III on September 29, 2009.

She is survived by her husband; three children: James Kostyrka (Sue) of Omaha, NE, Bryan Kostyrka (Christy) of Altoona and Danielle Wantz (Chaz) of Hagerstown, MD. Four stepchildren: Christina Steele of Altoona, John Steele of Liberty Hill, TX, Rodney Steele of Labelle, FL and Katja Yuille of Hagerstown, MD; two grandchildren: Adelyn and Benjamin Wantz and seven step-grandchildren: Kevin, James, Tyler, Emma, Sirus, Zen and Carley.

Diane was the last surviving member of her family, four siblings preceded her in death: John Jacoby, Joan Wenz, Janet Mendo and Carol Hanscom.

She retired from JCPenney while also making a loving home and caring for her family.

Diane belonged to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and was a life-member of the Duncansville VFW. She enjoyed shooting pool in the local pool leagues and liked collecting keepsakes.

At Diane’s request, there will be no visitation or services. A Celebration of Life for all family and friends will be held from 11 am-2 pm, Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Strokes Billiards, 2875 Route 764, Unit 1, Duncansville, PA 49968. A post-mortem Triasgion service was performed in her home by Fr. Isaac Danevicius of St. George.
