Duck (as we knew him๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚) was a great teammate in Legion Baseball and Claysburg high school. My Dad was Legion Baseball coach when Duck was playing! Duck came to my Dad's funeral home when he passed. I met up with him later at Iron Masters too. What a special manโค๏ธ.

Don was my cousin and my friend . We grew up in Claysburg Pa. For 12 years we were classmates, best of friends, and road buddies. There were very few days we were not together. We sat on the family poach listening to baseball games with my dad. Don was always very good at sports. In our younger days we spent time searching for ways to make money, to help our families out. We sold soda bottles, milk bottles, scrap iron and bricks, things we found at the dump. We picked blackberries, and huckleberries for our families to can. We also hitchhiked into Holidaysburg to caddy. Many days we walked from holidaysburg across cat fish ridge to claysburg, we gave the money to our parents or bought school clothes. After graduation I left and went to Trenton, N J. Whenever I would visit Don would always come up to the house to visit. Don would check on my family even when I was not home. I am very proud of Don, and all that he accomplished . I will really miss you cuz. Rest in peace.

The hearts of the Fuller Family are so very heavy at the passing of our friend Donald. His gifts and abilities and his zeal and passion for justice, equality and civil rights were all immeasurable and he dedicated his life and work in pursuit of those goals to great effect, immediately and long-term. His insights helped the in the fight against many major economic entities in Blair county Pennsylvania, and helped the to obtain jobs and contracts for minority workers and businesses and scholarships for African-Americans. Don led with foresight and inspiration as he coordinated the founding of the MLK Development for the betterment of our community and the world. We wish so much that we could share with you in person at this time, but our deep love and sympathy are with you all. Don left us all here too, too soon. We pray for your comfort and peace. In Christ's Love, Audrey, Kevin @ The Fuller Family Harrisburg. Pa.

Some called him Don,some called him Duck, some called him Spoon.I called him Cuz.He was my cousin. I am proud to say he and I along with our brothers and sisters spent our younger years growing up in Claysburg. We as families didn't have much back in those days, but what we did have was a love and understanding to care and look out for one another. When I would visit Altoona,I would always meet up with Cuz.We would share different stories about our life experiences growing up. Whether it was about the Dump, the Picnic, the Big Road ( you would've had to be from THE FIELD to know about these things).Eventhough times were tuff in the FIELD. We always found something to laugh about. REST IN PEACE CUZ.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฟ Ralph Pearson

Monday's Altoona Mirror was a day of sadness when I read the article about Don. Knowing that I would never bump into him at a restaurant or just about anywhere in Blair County. It was always a pleasure to talk to him and remember the days gone by. One time in particular was an evening at the movies watching the movie Red Tails about the Tuskegee Airmen. At the finish of the movie a voice spoke up a few rows behind me and I knew right away it was Don. He announced to all of us that a Blair county man had been part of the Red Tails. You knew by the tone in his voice that he was proud to make this moment not just about a movie of WWII but of a man from our community that served his country. Don fits that description well. He was a man of community service. My sympathy goes out to his wife and children and his brothers and sister. Jerry a teammate, John also a teammate and classmate and Patty a friend and classmate. Don was one of the good guys. He loved Altoona and Blair County. He cared about all people. I would run into Don on a almost daily basis at the Meadows Driving Range. My son just started playing golf and Don would say how good of a swing he had for a young boy. I will miss my friend Don and the community will miss a good man. RIP Don Witherspoon. Ed McCloskey
