Obituary For Doris R. George

Doris R. George January 4, 1929-November 21, 2022

Doris R. George, 93, Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday at her daughter’s residence. She was born in Blairsville, the daughter of the late Albert Garson “Dutch” and Marie Lilly (Myers) Doney. Doris was twice married, Mauro Russo, who preceded her in death on February 11, 1956 and Daniel George, who preceded her in death in 2005. Doris is survived by her loving daughter, with whom she resided, Vicki Russo Johns; four grandchildren: Gina Russo (Tim), Marla Russo Lippman (Steve), Matthew Johns (Noel), Taylor Johns (Mike); four great-grandchildren: Colby Russo, Zach and Theo Lippman and Mason John Johns; her dear friend, Shel Garner; The DeGennaro Family, many cousins and friends; and the mother of her granddaughters, Gina and Marla, Janie Stevens. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Anthony Russo; brother, Stuart Doney; son-in-law, John D. Johns and her long-time companion of over 35 years and love of her life, Johnny DeGennaro. Doris was the previous owner and operator of The Hot Dog Shoppe of Juniata and past owner of Texas Hot Dogs at Goods Lane and Downtown. Doris was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She liked bowling, dancing and having lunch with her friends. Doris enjoyed volunteering and helping people in any way she could. Her greatest joy in life was her family and the time she spent with them, especially Mason, who was her reason for living. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Friday, November 25, 2022 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th St., Altoona, Pa. 16602 by the Franciscan Fathers. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.     Deepest Sympathy. Doris was a wonderful lady and so full of life. She always made everyone feel welcome and she lived life to the fullest. Heaven now has this special lady. Bob and Dee Stahl.

    So sorry for your loss. I knew Doris through the Hollingshead family. She was such a sweetheart and I always looked forward to seeing her at family get togethers. She will be missed. My condolences to you and your family. Julie A.
