Obituary For Dorothy J. Gibney

Dorothy J. Gibney March 14, 1924- Dec. 28, 2020

Dorothy J. Gibney, 96, Altoona, passed away Monday at Graystone Manor of Bellmeade following complications from Covid. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late James and Ida (Hertzog) Warner. Dorothy married Norbert J. Gibney on Sept. 14, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he preceded her in death on July 23, 2001. Dorothy is survived by her three sons: James N. Gibney (Miriam) of Concord, NC, Norbert J. Gibney, Jr. (Jackie) of Hollidaysburg, and Thomas G. Gibney (Nancy) of Altoona; a daughter, Susan E. Roland of Altoona; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son and two daughters at birth. Dorothy was the last of her eight siblings. Dorothy was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Hollidaysburg. Dorothy enjoyed playing pinochle and belonged to a card club, she was also a member of the Altoona Kiwanis Club. Visitation and services will be held at the convenience of the family due to the current Covid conditions. A celebration of life for Dorothy will be held at a later date.     My sympathies go out to the Gibney Boys. In 1952 you moved with your parents from your grandparents' home across the street and rented half of our home at 1819 Third Ave. I was only 6 but I remember your mom's sweet smile and kind disposition.     Aunt Dot beat them all! I can see Mom and Dad and all the aunts and uncles playing cards with a cold beer singing to the sounds of the the big bands! The heavens are swinging! All my love to you, Aunt Dot and Uncle Norb are finally home and together again. Hugs to you, Cindy Estep

    Dear Susie and Family Have many fond memories of Aunt Dot She was a beautiful lady and fun to be around. I still have the tablecloth she bought me for a wedding shower gift and think of her when I use it. God bless all of you at this sad time. Mike, Loane, Craig and Brad Maier.
