Dr. John W. Griffith, Jr. May 8, 1935-November 21, 2022

Dr. John W. Griffith, Jr., 87, Huntingdon, passed away at his residence on Monday morning following a short-term illness. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John W. Sr. and Florence (Eckels) Griffith. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by his siblings: Edgar A., Marjorie A. and Ruby Griffith. Dr. Griffith attended and graduated from the Altoona School District. Following graduation from high school he served in the United States Army, stationed in Korea. After being discharged from the service, Dr. Griffith continued his education at Penn State University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Dr. Griffith then attended the University of Pittsburgh earning his master’s degree and PhD. Dr. Griffith was employed as an Educator for various Universities, before returning to coordinate a learning center at the Smithfield Correctional Institution. He retired from the State Department of Education. Dr. Griffith was an avid traveler living throughout the United States and in Asia, but Pennsylvania was always home. Interment will be held at Rosehill Cemetery, where a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 1 pm.
