Obituary For Edgar James "Ed" Johnsonbaugh, Jr.

Edgar James “Ed” Johnsonbaugh, Jr.
April 4, 1949 - October 10, 2026

Edgar James “Ed” Johnsonbaugh, Jr., 77, of Altoona, passed away at Midtown Oaks Health & Rehab Center.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Edgar James and Caroline Francis ( Calhoun) Johnsonbaugh.
Ed is survived by his three children: Gretchen Kennedy and Corinn Johnsonbaugh both of Altoona, Erich Johnsonbaugh (Angel) of Verona; five grandchildren: Taylor, Jimmy (Jordyn), Ian (Alaynah), Cara and Leah all of Altoona and friend and former spouse, Carla (Wright) Johnsonbaugh.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Devin Michael Bolvin.
Ed was a graduate of Tyrone High School and later attended the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.
He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Altoona.
Ed was a man that wanted to do a little bit of everything. He dabbled in car sales, insurance, and owning his own Johnsonbaugh’s Janitorial for a time and worked for Skills. Ed landed on truck driver for a long time with Industrial Uniform & Towel and eventually went into working as a CNA before finally retiring. Even after retirement, he became active at Crossroads; helping not only himself, but so many others. Oh, and you may have found him working-out at Building II, showing the high school football players the correct lifting form, or hanging with his ole' buddy, Carl.
He enjoyed playing his Gibson guitar (loved that thing)-with a harmonica around his neck and crooning out some Dylan or Croce. Ed liked watching the Sci-Fi Channel (Sharknado), The Rifleman and liked going to the movies. He loved anything John Wayne or the Three Stooges, reading a book, studying The Bible, cooking, baking, coaching girls volleyball at St. Therese for his daughters and cruising on a Sunday afternoon after Mass. Ed was also the best Brownie/Girl Scout & Boy Scout Dad you could ask for; either going on the field trips or joining Erich for camping trips.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for his birthday weekend.
The family requests that donations in memory of Ed be made to, Crossroads of Altoona, 827 19th St. Altoona, PA 16601.
Arrangements provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
