Edward H. Stevens, Jr.

April 4, 1935-November 12, 2025

Edward H. Stevens, Jr., 90, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday at Graystone-Grand Palazzo. He was born in Miami, Florida, the son of the late Edward H. Sr. and Eunice L. (Daily) Stevens.

Ed married Marilyn Rae Schmittle in December of 1979, she preceded him in death on February 4, 2015.

He is survived by his son, Edward H. Stevens, III (Debbie) of California and his daughter, Ruth A. Sell (Tim) of Texas; also four stepchildren: Karen L. Thompson (Jim) of York, Patrick J. Kandlbinder of California, Kristin A. Muir of Alaska, and K. Suzanne Kuhn (Ron) of Altoona; six grandchildren: Brittney Corl (Dan) of California, Devin Shannon of New Freedom, Sarah Shannon of Maryland, Rebecca Hereford of Washington, Kevin Muir of Pittsburgh, and Patrick Kuhn (Jenna) of Maryland; four great-grandchildren: Noah Shannon, Ethan Shannon, Madeline Hereford, and Grayson Kuhn; two sisters: JoAnne Parks and Lois J. Moore (Craig), and a brother, Michael W. Stevens, all of Arizona, and a sister-in-law, Ann Stevens of Ohio. Ed is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Kopchak and a brother, James A. Stevens.

He was a graduate of Northeastern Ohio High School and Mt. Union College of Alliance, Ohio. Ed retired from the Ohio Public School System after teaching history and coaching for 20 years. While working with the Louisville School District Ed was instrumental in starting the Occupational Work Study Program and the Cross-Country Program. After leaving Louisville, Ed spent 10 years as a sports administrator in Saudi Arabia.

Ed was a member of Kiwanis, Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation, and enjoyed volunteering for Ducks Unlimited for many years. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors.

Whenever you saw Ed there was always a dog at his side, most recently Annie.

At Ed’s request there will be no visitation or services.

Interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park.
