Elaine A. Smithmyer

April 24, 1938 – April 24, 2024

Elaine A. Smithmyer, 86, Altoona, passed away Wednesday, on her birthday, at Midtown Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Patton, daughter of the late Wilfred and Irene (Eckenrode) Anna.

Elaine married Edward J. Smithmyer on Aug. 2, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Patton. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1991.

She is survived by three sons: Scott Smithmyer (Cynthia) of Howard, Timothy Smithmyer (Lisa) and Kenneth Smithmyer (Barbara), all of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Brian, Greg and Katherine Smithmyer, Adam and Ashley Smithmyer, Emily Graham, Elizabeth Strittmatter and Erika Leap; 11 great-grandchildren; her two brothers, James Anna and John Anna, both of Patton; and a sister, Helen Rollason, of Carlisle. She was also survived by her companion, Charles Bohn.

Elaine was preceded in death by three siblings: Richard Anna, Paul Anna and Jean McFague.

She was a 1956 graduate of Patton High School, and retired as the office manager for Edward Smithmyer Plumbing and Heating, having served more than 20 years alongside her husband.

Elaine was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.

She enjoyed sewing, needle craft, and was an excellent quilter. Many of her quilts have been passed down through the family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., Altoona, with Father Nelson Javier, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
