Elizabeth Jane Lloyd, of Altoona, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday at the age of 103.
Betty, as she was known by family and friends, is survived by her son, Samuel of Altoona; and daughter, LeeAnn Merlo (Larry) of East Greenwich, R.I.; also by her granddaughter, Kristen (John Reichl).
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha Keen; and her brothers, John, Andrew and James. She was formerly married to the late Glenn Lloyd.
Born on June 14, 1921, in Altoona, she was a graduate of Altoona High School and the Altoona School of Commerce. Upon graduation, Betty was drafted by the Department of War and headed to Washington, D.C. assigned to the secretarial staff during World War II. She returned to Altoona after the war where she served in a variety of roles at Mid-State Bank.
She was active in the community through United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Alpha Iota Sorority.
Betty dedicated her life to her family, raising her two children and serving as a caregiver for her aging parents.
Betty always enjoyed a good rocking chair, and time with family and friends sharing stories about their life experiences. It was Betty’s goal to attend her granddaughter’s wedding this past June, and that she did-celebrating from the dance floor in her wheelchair.
She will be remembered for her love of jewelry which is a tradition that has been passed down through generations.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, in the Stevens Memorial Chapel at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, with the Rev. Myron Jones. Committal will be held at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
