Eugene T. “Gene” “Dude” McCauley August 26, 1933-April 25, 2023

Eugene T. “Gene” “Dude” McCauley, 89, Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Eugene M. and Sarah (Daugherty) McCauley. Dude married Alverta S. Wills on July 4, 1960, she preceded him in death on March 25, 1996. Dude is survived by his son: Timothy E. (Lisa) McCauley of Williamsburg and stepsons: Wayne Rice of Bedford, Ed (Susie) Rice of Stoneboro and Fred Rice of Dublin, VA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including, Megan (Justin) Becker, Kelly (Brandan) Young, Sean McCauley and Patrick McCauley, all with whom he resided; and a sister, Sr. Mary McCauley of Seton Hill, Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Eugene P., Joseph R., Sara J., Margaret, James R., David A., Robert “Art”, Lillian M, Alice A. and Donald B. and his companion, Alice Winrick. Dude was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955, during the Korean War. He retired as a Corrections Officer from SCI Smithfield. Dude was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Williamsburg. He enjoyed beagling and was a longtime member of Williamsburg Beagle Club and was a founding member of the Bellwood Beagle Club. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, April 28, 2023 at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament with Msgr. Stanley Carson, celebrant. Committal will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Loretto.
