Obituary For Flora "Flo" J. West

Flora J. “Flo” West Aug. 17, 1941-Dec. 2, 2020

Flora “Flo” J. West, 79, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness. Flo was the daughter of the late William & Erlene (Campbell) Campbell. She is survived by her children, Christine Campbell of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, J. Douglas West of Philadelphia and Melissa West of Altoona; three grandchildren; Nygel Queen, Tyson and Braedyn West; and a special friend Erin Stitt. Flo was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne D. and Gregory W. Campbell. She was a 1959 graduate of Altoona High School. Flo worked for Puritan before retiring from Ames, formerly Hills Department Store with 30 years of service as a Department Manager. Flo was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she was former usher and chairperson of the Board of Trustee’s. She enjoyed bowling, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Friends will be received on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602; where Covid-19 protocol will be followed, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. followed by a private committal service at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood with the Rev.     Christine and family, my prayers are with you during this season with the loss of your mother. Praying that you find peace in knowing that she is resting in Jesus arms. There was no one like Ms. Flo and her radiant smile was like none other.

    Dear Christine, Doug and Melissa, Please accept our condolences on the passing of your mother. We met Flo many years ago when we were members at Mt. Zion. She was friendly and always greeted us with a smile. Over the years Flo still remained the same with her gracious personality. We pray your strength during this difficult time.     Thank God for the wonderful friendship we shared over the many years...Flo was like my sister and despite the distance, we always stayed in touch...I will miss her so much. Love to Christine, Doug and Melissa your mom loved you guys so much!!

    I'd known flow since I was a little girl she was always very nice to me. She was a wonderful person. As we grow older we shared a grandchild together. I have great memories of Flo my my love and condolences to the family. May God bless you all. And May she rest in peace. Doreen

    I met Flo when I was a Christmas temp for Hills. that was 1983. She was a good manager and a great person. I enjoyed talking to her when we met out and about. My Condolences to the West family and friends. My God bless you and provide comfort in the time of grief and sorrow.
