Obituary For Frances "Kay" K. Lauer

Frances K. ‘Kay’ Lauer July 31, 1924-Feb. 24, 2023

Frances K. ‘Kay’ Lauer, 98, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away Friday morning at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha (Schenk) Adams. Kay married Richard J. Lauer on Oct. 10, 1953, he preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2017. Kay is survived by her children and their spouses: Mary Kay Mason and Roger of Conway, SC, Richard J. Lauer, Jr. and Lorrie of Columbia, MD, Patty L. Singer and Jerry of Los Angeles, CA and Mark S. Lauer and Cheryl of Glen Allen, VA; three grandchildren: Eric Lauer, Ashley Cooper and Melissa Lauer; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lois Steinbugl of Altoona and JoAnn Schlecht of Akron, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mary Grace (Wharton) and seven siblings. Kay was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She was an original “Rosie the Riveter” working during World War II in East Aurora, New York, riveting war planes. Kay later retired from the Altoona Area School District working in the cafeteria. She was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Kay was an avid walker and enjoyed quilting blankets. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Monday, March 6, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, Pa. 16602, with Fr. Lubomir Strecok, celebrant. Committal will be held at Blair Memorial Park. The family requests that contributions be made in Kay’s memory to: Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
