Obituary For Frances M. Bruno

Frances M. Bruno July 26, 1927-Feb. 24, 2022 Frances M. Bruno, 94, of Altoona, passed away peacefully, Thursday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family, after an extended illness. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Labriola) Brasile. Frances married, Joseph L. Bruno on October 16, 1954 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2012. Surviving are her two daughters: Nanette Grabill and her husband, Donn; Renee and her fiancé, Fred Drexler all of Altoona; grandchildren: Alesia (Grabill) Yingling and her husband, Kevin of Altoona, Nicole (Grabill) Emigh and husband, Paul of Tyrone and Barton Kitt (Randi) of Altoona; six great-grandchildren: Gianna, Landen, Ashton, Mason, Kellan, Jaxen and Kingston, who is due in May. Also surviving is a sister, Lucy Bowers and several half sisters and a half brother of Altoona and her special nephews: Dominic, Paul and Patrick Giordano of New Jersey. Frances attended Altoona Catholic High School. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. She was a very hard worker. Frances had previously worked for Vincent Horowitz’s shoe factory and Tritex Sportswear before retiring from Puritan (Warnaco) Sportswear as a seamstress, with over 20 years of service. Her greatest joy in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always put the needs of her family before her own. As a young adult, Frances enjoyed swimming at Prospect pool and going to the beach at Atlantic City. After her retirement, Frances enjoyed spending time with her husband Joe, going to the casinos, crocheting, word search books, cooking, watching cooking shows and sewing. When her daughters were little, she made them countless clothes (some of which were matching). She even made clothes for their Barbies. Frances took pride in her cooking and loved preparing for holiday meals, Sunday dinners and backyard barbecues where she loved having her house full of her family. When you came to the house, for whatever reason, whether friend, or family, you wouldn’t be able to leave the house without at least having had something to eat. Frances loved life and she lived her life to the fullest. She always had a beautiful smile on her face that would light up any room. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank all the staff members on unit C-2 at Garvey Manor Nursing Home for taking such exceptional care of Frances during this most difficult time. May God Bless all of you. Friends will be received from 3-6 pm on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the Stevens Memorial Chapel with Deacon James Woomer. Committal will be held at the Calvary Cemetery.
