Francis P. Hughes, 93, Altoona, passed away at the Ocean Springs Hospital in Mississippi, Thursday, January 14, 2021. He was born in Altoona on October 16, 1927, the son of the late Francis W. and Margaret Ann (Boehm) Hughes. Frank married Jean Glasson June 14, 1952. Frank is survived by his wife of 68 years; 6 children: Tom (Kathy) Hughes of Altoona, Barbara (Charles) Hardt of Ocean Springs, MS, Jim (Kathleen) Hughes of Altoona, PA, Joe (Shari) Hughes of Altoona, Frank (Peg) Hughes of Altoona, Jeanne (Victor) Villano of Hot Springs, AR; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1945. Frank served in the US Army during World War II. After returning, he worked for AT &T for 40 years as a technician and retired in 1985. The two of them bowled two to three times a week for 40 years and enjoyed over 35 years of retirement together. They loved to travel and especially loved going to the beach. He loved his family (babies and dogs always put a smile on his face and made him laugh). He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State. Frank had a quiet wisdom and will be remembered for his kind, gentle and patient way. Frank was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Frank (Pappy), was my grandfather. He was the living embodiment of patience, compassion, and love of family. I will remember his unconditional love for me and my family for the rest of my life. The memories of all of the vacations he and my grandmother have embarked on with my family will remain in my heart forever. I will miss my pappy for the rest of my life, and I will think about all of his life lessons and live by his example. One day in the future when I have a family of my own I will have the opportunity to teach them the same lessons of love for one another and of love for our Lord Jesus Christ that he taught all of us. While he may be gone from this Earth I know his spirit is looking down on us from Heaven. I thank God for all of the wonderful times we spent together and I look forward to sharing his wisdom, patience, and love. Love you Pappy, Ryan
