Frank John “Skip” Rimbeck

November 28, 1947 – September 4, 2023

Frank John “Skip” Rimbeck, 75, Altoona, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed away at UPMC Altoona on Monday after a courageous battle with cancer.

Frank was born in Altoona, son of the late Frank H. and Alma (Detterbeck) Rimbeck. Frank married Margaret A. Hrzic on May 16, 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

Frank is survived by his loving wife; five sons: Gerard (Ronda) Rimbeck, Christopher (Kathleen) Rimbeck, Michael (Danielle) Rimbeck, Frank Rimbeck, Jr, and Ryan (Michelle) Rimbeck; adopted son, Andrew Scherzinger; only daughter, Molly (Jason) Wink, all of Altoona; grandchildren, Step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Caitlyn Rimbeck, Evan Rimbeck, Steven Rimbeck, Jay Rimbeck, Brittany Lear, Brian Lear, Amber Longenecker, Zachary Scherzinger, and Brendan; his brothers: Matthew Rimbeck, Mark Pacifico, and Howard Ermin; sisters: Marilyn Albright, and Donna Butz; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was also preceded in death by stepmother, Joanne Rimbeck and brother, Raymond Rimbeck.

Frank was a 1966 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and was a paperboy, an eagle scout, and an avid sportsman.

Frank enlisted in the US Navy and served his Country in Vietnam.

Frank was previously employed at Riverside Market until 1972, when he began his career as a police officer with the City of Altoona.

In 1982, Frank became a K-9 officer with his loyal partner and friend, Kaiser. Frank retired after 26 years of service and further worked as the Director of Safety and Security at Valley View Nursing Home.

Frank was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Brush Mountain Sportsman’s Club.

Frank, a hard-working man, was proud of his children and grandchildren, and was a firm believer in second chances.

He enjoyed the outdoors, grass cutting, and watching football, especially Notre Dame, Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass, on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 411 Wopsononock Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601 by Fr. Brian Norris. Committal will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Frank’s memory to: Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
