Frederick Alan Fornwalt, 76, of Altoona, passed away unexpectedly at his residence Monday morning. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Roy A. and Helen M. (Farabaugh) Fornwalt.
On June 15, 1974, Fred married Donna M. Curry.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna, of 51 years; a sister-in-law, Debra Shaffer (Robert); a niece, Sandra Marie Herrera; a nephew, Scott Eliot Shaffer; great-nieces; great-nephews; his cousins: Kenneth M. Farabaugh, Jr., Robert Farabaugh, Mary Jo Leamer, Annette Almes and Lori D'Amato also, his faithful dog, Teddi.
He was preceded in death by his cousin, Kathy Mika.
Fred was a 1967 graduate from Bishop Guilfoyle High School and went on and received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Penn State University.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and played in the Army National Guard Band and the Penn State Blue Band.
Fred was the owner and operator of Fornwalt Piano for 55 years as a piano tuner and technician, serving all of Central PA, including Penn State University and many of the area’s premier musical venues; restoring and maintaining their pianos.
He was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont.
Fred was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild, a former member of the Altoona Symphony, the St. John’s church choir and the Hollidaysburg Community Band.
Friends will be received from 9-11 am, Saturday, October 25, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 344 Baynton Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am with Msgr. Michael Becker, celebrant.
Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements are provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc.
