Gail Francis Myers Sloan March 12, 1947-Dec. 21, 2021

Gail F. Sloan, 74, Hollidaysburg, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Joseph and Geraldine (Gehl) Myers. Gail married Stephen W. Sloan in Dec. 11, 1971. She is survived by her loving husband and five children: Adam J. Sloan, Stephanie Sloan and Joanna Lawson all of Hollidaysburg, Melanie Meier of Colorado, and Kirsten Casey of Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; her brothers and sisters: Bonnie Koss, Mark Myers, Mary Myers, Beth McAleer and Jerry Moore all of Altoona and Sue Kies of Bellwood and Charles Myers of North Carolina. Gail was preceded in death by her brother Fred Myers. She was a 1964 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and was employed at the James E. Van Zandt Veterans Medical Center and later as executive secretary to the president of Wolf Furniture Company. Gail was a member at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg. She loved to travel to the national parks but especially loved the yearly beach trips to North Carolina to spend with her family. She was a creative person and loved working in her gardens and decorating her home. She was an excellent cook and looked forward to large holiday gatherings and picnics just to try new recipes and share them. Gail loved playing bridge with her friends. She loved singing and was a member of the Hollidaysburg choral group. Most of all Gail loved to be with her husband of fifty years and spending time with her five children and fifteen grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm, Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 30, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church Hollidaysburg with Fr. Alan E. Thomas, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Gail’s memory to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at: www.stjude.org/memorial.
