Obituary For Gerald "Mick" W. Seidel

Gerald W. “Mick” Seidel

March 24, 1931-August 27, 2026

Gerald W. “Mick” Seidel, 95, of Altoona, peacefully passed away Thursday morning at his residence. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Rudolph and Madeline (Pearson) Seidel.

Mick married Teresa Brunnhuber on May 24, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

Surviving Mick is his loving wife of 74 years; two sons: Michael Seidel (Robyn) of Altoona and Joseph Seidel (Amy) of Arkansas; three daughters: Denise Condrin, Katrina Brown (Steve) and Teresa Stayer (Brian) all of Altoona; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and his two sisters: Elaine Weaver of Altoona and Colleen Crider of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his son, George W. Seidel on June 29, 2013; three siblings also preceded him: Marlene, Patty and James “Bud”.

Mick served in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant and served during the Korean War. He lived by the mantra, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

Mick retired from Conrail as a pipefitter after many years of service.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed German music and dancing. He was a long-time member of Brush Mountain Sportsman Club and the Unter Uns Society.

There will be no public visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1405 5th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.

Arrangements are provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., Altoona, PA.

Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona with full Military Honors.

    My heartfelt condolences to the one truly special lady Mrs. Terry and her and Mick's children, family, friends and loved ones. What I remember most about Mick was how jolly he often would be and he sharing his German radishes with anyone willing to oblige him - "HOT" May flights of Angels carry Mick home and to embrace with those who proceed his passing, especially Georgie!     I will always fondly remember visiting with Great-Uncle Mick & Great-Aunt Terry at Seidel family reunions at Brush Mountain. He always had wisdom to impart and loved sharing about their travels abroad. Uncle Mick lived vibrantly with enthusiasm, gratitude, integrity, humor, and a sense of adventure. I'll always cherish the warmth of his presence & his laugh. He was truly a special man. Lighting a candle for his eternal rest & sending tender condolences to Aunt Terry & the kids.
