Obituary For Helen Concetta Cardone

"Her name is Helen" . Helen Concetta Cardone 98, formally of Altoona, died peacefully Monday morning at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg after a brief illness, showered with love from her family.

She was born in Altoona. the daughter of Frank and Theresa Fedeli and married the handsome George L. Cardone on May 4, 1944 in Altoona. He preceded her in death on July 28,2015 after 71 years of marriage.

Surviving are their four children, Dr. George J. Cardone (Polly) of Altoona, Gregory Cardone (Judy) of Pinellas Park, Florida, Suzanne Murray (Jerry) of State College and Eydie Adams (Terry) of Altoona, 15 grandchildren, Yvette, Adam, Tami, Michael, Nichole, Janeen, Teresa, Gregory, Maura, Jessica, Jereme, Mallory, Trent, Morgan & Luke, 18 great grandchildren, a sister, Susan Bauer, and sister in law Rosemarie Fedeli, many cousins, nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Herman Fedeli, Vera Johns, Alfred Fedeli, Yolanda Damiano, Rocky Fedeli, and brothers and sisters in law.

Helen was a 1939 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. During World War II she left Altoona for Philadelphia to work in the Signal Corps for three years and the money she earned was sent home to help support her widowed Mother and siblings.

Helen was a homemaker and worked part time at Masons Department Store and then retired from the Altoona Area School District as a teacher's aide after 10 years of service. She volunteered in several schools and did recordings of readings for the blind. She was a member of the Order Italian Sons and Daughters of America.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grand and great grandmother. She was a phenomenal cook and would have her entire family over on Sundays where they would eat enough for the entire day, no guest ever left hungry. No one could make food like Grandma!

Besides cooking Helen loved beauty, fashion, decorating, music and Paris. She was extremely generous and she made time to talk to and make others feel special. Her love of God and faith was passed onto her family and others by her example.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, PA, officiated by Father Lubomir J. Strecok. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, 998 Logan Blvd, Altoona PA 16602 in Helen's memory. Special heartfelt thanks to all Lutheran home employees, past and present, who went above and beyond taking care of Helen over the years, which your love and dedication has not gone unnoticed and you have our utmost respect.
