Obituary For J. Denny Stevens

J. Denny Stevens May 15, 1940-August 29, 2022

J. Denny Stevens, 82, Altoona, peacefully passed away Monday evening at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late J. Denny and Ruth (Schaeffer) Stevens. Denny married Beatrice Cecere on August 25, 1962. Denny is survived by his wife of 60 years; a daughter, Rebecca Stevens and husband Marty Malone of Hollidaysburg; a son, Todd Stevens of Altoona; two grandchildren: Emily and William Evey; and three step-grandchildren: Hunter, Molly and Mitchell Malone. He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Jane Evey. Denny was a 1959 graduate of Altoona High School and a graduate of St. Bonaventure University. He devoted his entire career in working at his family business, The Stevens Company. Denny was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. He was currently serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Investment Savings Bank, where he was a Board Director for 40 years. Denny was the past president of the Board of Home Nursing Agency and of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He was a Board Member with United Way and the Chamber of Commerce. Denny was a member at the Spruce Creek Rod and Gun Club and PALS Club. Denny enjoyed collecting and restoring antique Jaguars, collecting and racing vintage motorcycles, flying glider planes, fly fishing, trips to the beach and his English bulldogs. Most importantly, Denny loved spending time with his family and friends. Friends will be received from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, Sept. 2, 2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg with Fr. Alan Thomas, officiating. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
