Obituary For James J. Porta, Jr.

James J. Porta, Jr. February 15, 1944-November 21, 2022

James J. Porta, Jr., 78, Altoona, passed away Monday at his residence. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late, James J. and Marian (Musselman) Porta, Sr. James married Carol A. McCann on June 19, 1965 and she preceded him in death on July 31, 2022. James is survived by two sons: James T. Porta and William Porta both of Altoona; two daughters: Anne Adams (John) of Altoona and Katherine Davis of Roaring Spring; four grandchildren: Katelyn, Carolyn and Angelyn Adams, Dalton Davis and a great-granddaughter, Addilyn; also surviving are his siblings: John Porta, Jeff Porta and Janet Lego all of Altoona; also, son-in-law, Paul Davis, Jr. of Hollidaysburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Porta. James was a 1962 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. He served in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam Era and Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from the Coca Cola Ebensburg Bottling Plant after many years of service. James was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He belonged to the Casey Jones Camping Club and loved to camp, enjoyed football and baseball-especially the Altoona Curve, and was a huge NASCAR fan. Friends will be received from 3-5 on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, followed by a 5 pm funeral service in the Stevens Memorial Chapel. Committal prayers with Military Honors will be held at 11 am, Monday, November 28, 2022 at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
