Obituary For James L. Morris, Sr.

James L. Morris, Sr.,73, Altoona, passed away Monday after an extended illness.

James was born in Altoona, son of the late Moses McCall, Jr. and Amanda E. Morris-Johnson.

He is survived by children: Shavet L. Lamont of Altoona, Kimberly D. Morris of Germantown, James L. Morris, Jr. (Stephanie) of Altoona, Jason L. Morris (Kelly) of Altoona, and Christopher S. Morris (Tori) of State College; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings: Victoria McCall-Miller (Curtis) of Altoona; Douglas Johnson (Paula) of Altoona, Christopher Johnson, Marc Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Lolita Brace (Thomas), Lisa Johnson, and Leslie Stewart all of Albany, NY; special nephews: Timothy McCall and Dante Green and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Johnson.

James was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School and retired as receiving supervisor for H.H. Shoe Co.

He was a member of the Arandale Elks Lodge 184 and was an avid LA Lakers fan.

James spent many years as a basketball coach in the Altoona Area School District.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to: Jordan Miller Scholarship Fund, C/O Altoona Area School District Foundation, 1201 Eighth Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.

    To the family of Coach Morris I offer thoughts and prayers. I've always said that Coach Morris was the best coach I've ever played for. He would always Coach you hard but even more importantly he showed you that he cared about you. Coach was a tremendous impact not only on me but a lot players who played for him. "You're not tired, you just think you're tired" he would always say. Thank you for impacting me and Rest easy Coach. Mark Mitchell

    To the immediate family, condolences for your loss. Jimmy and I were cousins, sad to say we didn't spend much time together over the years. Years ago when we did meet up, we always shared a laugh. May your memories of him bring you comfort during your sadness. 🙏🏿
