Obituary For James Moore

James Moore Jan. 11, 1966 – March 16, 2023

James Moore, 57, Altoona, passed away Thursday at Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Catherine J. Douglass. Jimmy was a graduate of Altoona Area High School. He was a hard worker; Jimmy enjoyed collecting scraps and aluminum cans. Many neighbors and small businesses saved their cans for him, resulting in Jimmy fostering lifelong friendships with several residents within the community of Altoona. Because of this passion, Jimmy was coined “The Can Man” occasionally appearing in the local newspaper, which he was so very proud of. Jim was a man of his word – very genuine, honest, and dependable. He had a great sense of humor and loved playing the lottery. Jimmy always looked forward to day trips to the casino. He never turned down a cup of coffee; Jimmy watched the weather and would initiate calls to ensure those he cared about were always prepared for snow. He had a special friend Connie, whom he enjoyed spending time with. Jim’s happiness and overall zest for life was contagious, leaving an imprint on all those who crossed his path. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services. Interment will be at Mines Methodist Cemetery, Oreminea, Pa. Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc, 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. Condolences may be made at www.stevensfamilyfuneralhomes.com or Stevens Family Funeral Homes Facebook.

Jimmy was a very special person anyone who ever met had just made a friend. May heaven be free of any scrap waste as Jimmy pulls his golden wagon down the streets greeting those who he met in his lifetime along the way.

Jimmy was such a hard worker. I admired him so much for his work ethic. He worked so hard at collecting his cans. He could be seen all over town collecting his cans. He always walked when he was collecting the cans. He also had such a great sense of humor. He will be missed by many. RIP Jimmy.
