Janet E. Kauffman

June 16, 1932 – December 2, 2023

Janet E. Kauffman, 91, a lifelong resident of Altoona, passed away Saturday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

Janet was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John A. and Marie E. (Vollmer) Fluke. On January 17, 1953, she married Charles M. Kauffman, Jr. at St. James Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1985.

Surviving are two sons: Stephen C. Kauffman (Susan) of Johnstown and Douglas J. Kauffman (Donna) of Altoona; a daughter, Lisa M. Moore of Altoona; Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Fluke, son-in-law, Charlie Moore, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Janet was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School and retired as a retail clerk for Gee Bee.

She was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church where she served on the Church council, sang in the choir, and volunteered on numerous committees.

Janet enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Altoona Curve fan.

She enjoyed her life on earth to the fullest and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 and from 10-11a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 Eighth Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Drew McCaffery and Pastor Ralph Hamer. Interment will be at Alto Reste Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Janet’s memory to: Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.

    I remember Janet sitting on her front porch and then coming down a few houses to chat with neighbors. She enjoyed her grandkids and my children would play on the sidewalk with her grandkids. My sympathy to her family. Your saddest day, but truly her happiest.
