Janet M. Lego

April 26,1947-July 19,2024

Janet M. Lego, 77, Altoona, passed away on Friday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late James and Marian (Musselman) Porta.

Janet married Fay W. Lego on May 4, 1991 at St. Mary’s, he preceded her in death on February 2, 1999.

She is survived by her two sons: Robert Hammel of Hollidaysburg and Richard Hammel of Altoona; two daughters: Cheryl Lafferty (David) of Hollidaysburg and Cynde Smith (Jeff) of Florida; two brothers: John Porta of Altoona and Jeff Porta of Altoona; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janet was a graduate of Altoona High School. She worked at Hills Department Store for several years as a salesclerk. After that she joined her husband Fay working for St. Rose of Lima in the maintenance department.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona, Casey Jones Camping Club, and Senior Life.

Janet enjoyed family game night with her family.

Friends will be received from 5-7 pm Tuesday July 23, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave. Altoona, PA 16602, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 7 pm in the Stevens Memorial Chapel. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery

The family suggests, contributions be made in memory of Janet to the Alzheimer’s Association at 2835 E. Carson St. Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
