Janice C. Malady, 92, Boone, North Carolina, formerly of Altoona, passed away on Sunday at her residence.
She was born in Wilkinsburg, to the late John G. and Clara Mae (Ewing) McGrath. Janice was twice married: first on Oct. 25, 1947 to Gilbert A. Geis who preceded her in death on July 24, 1991. On April 3, 2002, she married Thomas A. Malady who also preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2010.
Janice is survived by her son, Richard L. Geis (Sally) of Boone, NC and her daughter, Karen B. Bonet of Roswell, GA; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy A. Zeak of Altoona and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Jerry, James, Mickey and Robert McGrath; her son-in-law, Carlos M. Bonet and his son Carlos J. Bonet.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Janice worked outside her home for several years at Kauffman’s Dress Shop prior to serving 20 years as a pharmacy assistant at Kopp Drug. After her retirement in 1989, Janice and her sister Nancy volunteered for several years at Altoona’s Mercy Hospital. Janice also enjoyed socializing with her friends at their ladies’ Breakfast Club.
Janice was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
Janice enjoyed reading, completing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, gardening and handywork.
Friends will be received from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602 where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Nelson Javier at 11 am, Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Committal will be held at Blair Memorial Cemetery in Bellwood, PA.
