Obituary For Joan W. Camberg

Joan W. Camberg May 16, 1940-August 18, 2022

Joan W. Camberg, 82, Altoona, passed away at UPMC Altoona Thursday evening after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Hepburnia the daughter of the late Raymond M. and Ann L. (Radzieta) Witherow. Joan married John “Jack” Camberg on June 8, 1963. Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years; two daughters: Jean (Bruce) Nibbelink of Leesburg, VA and Jennifer (Dennis) Moore of Palmyra; five grandchildren: Laura, Rachel and Ben Nibbelink, Emily (Eric) Farkas and Ethan Moore; a brother, Daniel Witherow of New Millport and a sister, Judy Gilliland of Woodstock, CT; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Kavelak. Joan was a 1957 graduate of Clearfield Area High School. In 1961 she received her Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education in mathematics from Indiana University of PA. She was a mathematics teacher in the Altoona Area School District, retiring in 2000 from Roosevelt Jr. High School. Joan was an active member of Providence Presbyterian Church. She was a life member of the PA School Retirees and held office as assistant treasurer. Joan was also a member of the Women’s Club of Altoona holding office as secretary and assistant treasurer. Joan enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling, and collecting baseball autographs. She especially loved being “Noanie” to her five grandchildren. Friends will be received from 5-8 pm on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral service will be held at 10 am, Friday, August 26, 2022 at Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16601, with Rev. Dennis Braun officiating. Interment will be held at Fruit Hill Cemetery, New Millport. The family asks that contributions be made in Joan’s memory to: Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16601.     I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories with your family. I remember telling Joan when I had her as a teacher that I liked her much better as a neighbor because she was nicer. Now her and my mom can reunite. Love you all, Becky (Stacey) Shedd and family
