Joann E. (Donaldson) Dekker, 87, Hollidaysburg, passed away Thursday morning at Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late James Donaldson and Martha (Ingram) Wambaugh. On March 31, 1956, she married Ronald L. Dekker in Altoona.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Stephen Elliot Dekker (Armida) of Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren: Logan, Megan, Madison, Stephen and Alex; a brother, Robert Donaldson (Connie) of Hollidaysburg; a son-in-law, Mark Adler of Hollidaysburg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Scott Dekker; a daughter, Jill Suzanne Adler; a brother, James Donaldson; and a sister, Ruth Donaldson.

Joann was a graduate of Altoona High School and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She retired as an elementary school teacher for the Altoona Area School District, with over 25 years of service.

Joann was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Altoona Area School District Alumni Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Blair County Association of School Retirees and A.A.R.P.

She enjoyed music, traveling, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Joann be made to American Cancer Society.
