John A. Barry

John A. Barry, 75, Duncansville, passed away Saturday at his residence following a courageous 3-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Daniel and Anna (Wiley) Barry. John married Kathleen A. Smeltzer in 1970 in Altoona.

He is survived by two sons: Chad Barry of Altoona, John D. Barry of Roaring Spring and a daughter, Lisa Stephens (Greg) of James Creek; two grandchildren: Candace Carper (Brandon) and Lucas Stephens; a great-grandson, Brayden; a brother, Thomas Barry of Duncansville and two sisters: Patricia Coho of Lakemont and Eleanor Rudasill of Altoona.

John was preceded in death by his two sisters: Catherine Baker and Ann Glaser; also, his two brothers: James and Daniel Barry.

He was a US Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received two Purple Hearts.

John retired after 30 years of service as a welder from Norfolk Southern.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. John also enjoyed spending time with his family.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services.
