John E. Scott

May 31, 1941-March 9, 2025

John E. Scott, 83, Altoona, passed away at UPMC Altoona Sunday. He was born in Mary D, PA, the son of the late John F. and Florence (Valentine) Scott.

John married Brenda Long on July 20, 2000.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years and his children: Rae Lynne Tonkin (Barry), Leslie Martz (Douglas), John Scott, Kerrin Lutz (Randy), Mark Hott (Erin), Shannon Long (TJ) and Melissa Long (Nick); 19 grandchildren with 2 on the way and 21 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way.

John was preceded in death by his son, Jason C. Hott and son-in-law Randy Lutz.

He was a high school graduate and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served with the Military Police.

John was the Manager for Material Distribution at Conrail, South Altoona.

John was an avid Penn State and Steelers football fan. He loved his dogs Tessa and Tucker. He enjoyed his boat and camper and watching old western movies. He loved spending time with his family and friends and adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by the love of his life who he referred to as Lovie.

There will be no visitation or services at this time and will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
