John E. ‘Jack’ Conway Feb. 19, 1935-Dec. 24, 2023
John E. ‘Jack’ Conway, 88, Altoona, passed away Sunday at Presbyterian Village of Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Gallitzin, the son of the late Arthur and Marie (Myers) Conway. Jack married Shirley Ann Lasher on August 16, 1958.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 65 years; his four children: James E. Conway (Brenda) and Nicole E. Conway (fiancé, Jim Shelow) all of Hollidaysburg, Karen L. Kasun (Michael) of Altoona and Stacy M. Darnley (Rob) of Sanford, FL; seven grandchildren: Ryan Conway (Heather), Mariah Lytle (Patrick), Shane Conway (Lauren), Matthew Darnley, Megan Darnley, Bella Lear and Sarah Darnley; three great-grandchildren: Hadley Conway, Cadence Lytle and Trent Conway; two sisters: Alverta Sommer of Altoona and Linda Dodson of Martinsburg as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Conway.
Jack was a 1952 graduate of Altoona High School where he played basketball. He went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army.
He retired from SCI Huntingdon as a Corrections Officer and had also worked in Economy Wholesale and Puritan Sportswear.
Jack was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church.
He had been a member of the Catholic War Vets, Bavarian Aid Society and especially enjoyed spending time with his friends and family at the Heidelberg Country Club.
Jack was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football and he especially loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Duncansville by Msgr. Robert J. Saly. Committal will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
