Obituary For John "Jack" Hatch

John E. “Jack” Hatch May 10, 1937-June 8, 2022 John E. “Jack” Hatch, 85, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John E. and Keturah (Culbertson) Hatch, Sr. On May 24, 1983, he married Janet Kowalski. Jack is survived by Jan, his loving wife of 39 years; his children: Gary Hatch, Christine (Kurt) Schimminger, Karen (Joe) Daly and Bill (Kristina) Hoyne; eight dearly loved grandchildren who called him Poppo, and he loved it: Malia, Michael, Nick and Luke Schimminger, Calla and Max Daly, Jack and Mia Hoyne; a sister Pam (Russ) Ellenberger; along with several nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry. Jack was a 1955 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Altoona Campus of Penn State. He worked at The Hite Company for 63 years, retiring at the age of 81 having risen to the position of Sr. Vice President. He and Jan traveled extensively, usually on business trips. Jack loved to work, and he loved The Hite Company. He retired about 3 times; he just didn’t want to stop working. Jack was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He loved the Pennsylvania Railroad and was involved in the Altoona Railroader’s Memorial Museum and a model railroad club for many years. Jack was involved with many community projects, including the lighting of the Horseshoe Curve, the restoration of the K-4 in the 1980’s and the Altoona America Celebration. He especially enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren. Private services were held at the convenience of the family.     Dad will be missed by many. My best memory is when he took the time to play guitar and violin duets with me and encouraged me to paint and pursue the arts. Rest In Peace. Love Debbie Hatch Assad
