Obituary For John P. Hooper
John P. Hooper, 80, Altoona, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona following a brief illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Herbert J. and Margaret K. (Conrad) Hooper.
He is survived by a sister, Lucille Mangiacarne (Frank) of Altoona and also by his cats, whom he dearly loved.
John was a 1958 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the UVA Club, Swiss Club, Bavarian Aid Society and the Froshinn Singing Society.
He had most recently been a van driver, transporting deaf patients to Pittsburgh and had previously been a correctional officer in Lancaster and a longtime bartender at Jack and George’s in Altoona. John was a creative builder of models, utilizing all manner of household materials.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.
