Obituary For John R. Rhone, Jr.

John R. Rhone, Jr. Jan. 22, 1940-May 13, 2021

John R. Rhone, Jr., 81, of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Altoona passed away peacefully Thursday. He was born in Cedar Crest, Pa, the son of the late John Robert and Blanche Irene (Wilson) Rhone, Sr. John married Carol Mae Roarabaugh on Aug. 29, 1964, she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1980, he was also preceded by his longtime companion, Ruth Ann Blake, April 26, 1998. John is survived by three sons: John R. Rhone, III (Lisa) of McVeytown, Michael R. Rhone (Terri) of Altoona and Phillip Rhone (Bill) of Hollidaysburg; a brother, Charles Rhone of Altoona; sisters: Shirley Walters of Duncansville, Gloria Jay of Adamstown and Sarah Yohn of Altoona; five grandchildren: Brooke, Morgan, Cheyenne, Shane and Zackary; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Rhone. John joined the US Army where he served with the 82nd Airborne Division, he was later honorably discharged and became the owner/operator of Rhone Construction of Altoona for over 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but John especially loved spending time with his family and friends playing cards, camping and listening to country music. John was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm, Sunday, May 16, 2021 and 9-11 am, Monday, May 17, 2021 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am in The Stevens Memorial Chapel with Pastor Julia Piper. Interment will be held at Blair Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make contributions in John’s memory to: Mending Hearts, P.O.
