Joseph A. Koss, Jr.

Joseph A. Koss, Jr., 75, Altoona, passed away Monday morning at his residence. He was born in Johnstown, the son of the late Joseph A. and Mary E. (Nadu) Koss.
Joseph married Bonita “Bonnie” L. Myers on September 30, 1972 in Winchester, Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; his son, Joel Koss of Hollidaysburg; two daughters: Sarah Anderson (Brent) of Pittsburgh and Laura Koss (James Peters) of Hollidaysburg; ten grandchildren: Naomi, Lydia, Charles, Grace, Margot, Archer, Grant, Olivia, Clark and Mila; and his three siblings: Jeffrey Koss of Ebensburg, Darlene Koss of Florida and Stephanie Servais of Ohio.
Joe was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Joelle (Caughey); two sisters: Rose Uding and Dorothy Koss and his niece, Bridget Newman.
He was a graduate of Central Cambria High School.
Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969 to serve his country during the Vietnam War, where he received two Purple Hearts with first oak leaf cluster/Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge.
After 36 years of service, Joe retired from the United States Postal Service, Altoona office in 2009.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Hollidaysburg.
Joe enjoyed working on his hobbies and many talents, such as rebuilding sewing machines, working on cars, woodworking, furniture repair, home improvements, painting and gardening his fruit trees and vegetables.
Friends will be received from 3-7 pm, Friday, January 3, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 315 Jones St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 with Rev. Jeanne Jacobson. Interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Joe’s memory to: Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 315 Jones St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
